Recent Projects

I work on a lot of projects in several genres including live music, sports, and large family portraits. Many of my clients are recurring such as The Rainbow Room Lounge, The Zattzoo Project, and others. As I continue to work on these amazing projects I am investigating other genres and continue to expand my portfolio.

36th Annual Vancouver Island Bowling Championships (April 26 - 28, 2024). I was the official photographer of this years tournament, occurring in Port Alberni at Rainbow Lanes. It was a very fun time getting to shoot the action including Ladies and Men's singles as well as ladies, men's and mixed teams. I also did team photos, live music at the banquet and the award ceremonies on the final day.

Five Pin League Bowling: (April 2024). Shooting 5 pin bowling at Rainbow Lanes in Port Alberni. I used two cameras, with one camera setup on the walkway of the center lanes. This remote setup is triggered by myself while I run around with another camera taking action shots and candids. The remote camera is a Canon 5D Mark 2 with a Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 lens. The camera shutter if fired from a Godox receiver, operated from a Godox transmitter in my hand. I am using a Canon 5D Mark4 with a Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 as my primary action camera. We completed 6 shoots, starting with the evening leagues end of season on April 15, 16 and 18. Team photos were also taken at this time. I used three Godox MS300 strobes with silver umbrellas as my lighting. The umbrellas had diffusion on the front to help soften the silver bounce. On Saturday, April 20 we did team photos of the afternoon end of season Handicap League. For this I used a Canon 600Ex flash mounted on top of the camera. The flash was fitted with a Rogue Flashbender to soften and spread the light. On April 23 and 25 I shot the end of season Seniors league. As well as action and remote camera shots, we did staged imaged on the lanes and team photos on another lane. The staged images were shot with a Canon flash setup just like the Handicap team images. The seniors team images were taken with a one light setup using a Neewer Vision 4 strobe fitted with a Godox large softbox.

Real Estate Photography: (April 2024). Several projects have come my way this year and more are coming. I use what is commonly referred to as the "flambient" method for interior shoots. Currently I have experience with interior and exteriors, and commercial spaces. I use a Canon 5D Mark 4 fitted with a Canon 16-35mm f/4. My key light is a Neewer Vision 4. Fill light used for ceiling bounce are usually done with Canon 600X and 580 speedlights.

Tseshaht First Nations: (March 2024). I spent 4 days at the Tseshaht Longhouse doing family portraits in Regalia. This was an amazing opportunity, a lot of fun, a lot of photography lighting to ensure everyone and every item was properly illuminated, and a great time had by all. My primary camera was a Canon 5D Mark4, tethered to a Macbook Pro for immediate backups. My lighting was a seven light setup. I used a Neewer Vision 4 fitted with a large Godox softbox as my key light. Two fill lights, one on either side of the key were Elinchrom strobes fitted with large silver umbrellas. Two side edge lights and two hair lights were also used. These four were Godox MS300 strobes fitted with silver umbrellas. All of the silver umbrellas has white diffusion materials on the front.

ADSS Totem Basketball: (January 2024). I was very fortunate to be able to shoot a couple of the ADSS Totem 68 basketball games as a media person for the AV News. For these games I used a Canon 5D Mark4 fitted with a Canon 70-200mm f/4

Electronic Press Kits: I worked with the group "Under The Mountain" and soloist Steve Plantz (also a member of Under The Mountain) at The Rainbow Room (January 2024) during their performance. We put together on and off stage images for their promotional materials including their EPKs.

The Rainbow Room Lounge: I became this institutions house photographer in October 2022 and a couple or three weekends every month since I've been fortunate enough to photograph a lot of really cool live music acts. Recent shows include Antler with guests No-Data, The Shindigs and Krypteia (April 14, 2024), Bad People with guests Awkward AC and Daddy Issues (March 30, 2024). My current setup is a Canon 5D Mark4 and a Canon 5D Mark2. Lenses that get used during these performances are my Canon 300mm f/4, 70-200mm f/4, 16-35mm f/4 and 15mm fisheye f/2.8. Two new lenses have just been added to my kit and will get extensive use for live performances. These lenses are the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 and Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8

Alberni Valley Bulldogs Junior "A" Hockey: I love to go as an independent volunteer and shoot hockey games when I'm free. I was originally hired in 2018 to shoot a couple of pre-season games for marketing purposes. In December of that year I was blessed to be the official photographer of Hockey Canada's World Junior hockey pre-tournament games in Port Alberni. Since then I've been fortunate to keep going, voluntarily, to games and from time to time my images have been used by the organization, with one of them even adorning the entrance to the AV Multiplex.  (Update: As of November 2023, I am also a stand in video camera operator when they are short a regular operator for the Bulldogs and am the fulltime Bombers video operator for FloHockey.)

The Zattzoo Project - Memorial Cup: This non-profit organization has two events that I am a part of. In late December is the annual "Memorial Cup". I was the official photographer for the Memorial Cup hockey tournament held December27, 2023.

WCGH Christmas Party. In December 2023 I was the photographer for the West Coast General Hospital staff Christmas party, held at the Best Western Hotel in Port Alberni. My first year doing this party was 2019. The pandemic put it on hold until 2023. Photo booth photography is always exciting and I just love being part of special events like this.

North Island College: In September 2023 I worked with the Port Alberni campus of NIC to do their graduation photos and I think I'll be doing it again!

Alberni District Fall Fair: In September 2023 I spent four days documenting the fall fair. (I did 3 days in 2022). I spent a fair amount of time shooting the musical acts including Thursday night's "Wet Future", Friday's "Eagle Eyes" and Saturday night I got to shoot Canadian Rock Legends "Chilliwack". I also spent a lot of time taking evening shots of the spectacular lights from the fair rides. Sunday was dedicated to Logger sports. During my time shooting in 2022 I was fortunate to be able to shoot the one and only "The Queen of Scream", the former "Headpins" lead singer Darby Mills with her new "The Darby Mills Project" band.

Five Acre Shaker: I was one of the primary photographers for this two day and night music festival in August 2023. It is always a pleasure to use my skills for promotional purposes and the Five Acre Shaker is a highlight of my summer. This event allows for commercial and branding photography, as well as advertising, promotional and marketing opportunities. I was also involved with this great organization in 2022, 2018, and 2017.

Folk Art Farms Music Festival (August 2023): I was the official photographer for the two day and night music festival in Whiskey Creek. I spend a lot of time photographing musical acts as well as the property. The property was documented by me for their up and coming new website, which I have been offered to manage. Commercial and branding photography.

Okee Dokee Softball Tournament and Funtastic Music Festival: I was elated and honoured to be selected to be the official photographer (July 2023) for this three day, 80 team, softball tournament with a 2 night music festival. I was busy to say the least and I am grateful for my energy to do these 14 hour days. Sunday night, July 2nd I got to photograph "Honeymoon Suite"

ADSS Prom: For the third year in a row I was selected to photograph the graduating class on the red carpet for their June 2023 prom.

The Zattzoo Project - Battle of the Bands: This non-profit organization holds the yearly "Youth Battle of the Bands" I was their lead photographer for the annual "Youth Battle of the Bands" in 2023 and will be back for June 2024.

The Amazing Alberni Valley: Over the years I have amassed a very large collection of images from events and my travels around the Alberni Valley and beyond. This collection is now being made available on a new website, which I have aptly named "The Amazing Alberni Valley". It's a work in progress, a labour of love so to speak. It will be maintained and kept current, and turned into a media site in my long term plan. Please visit it and enjoy the show here.
